König wood & resin HSWS - Dry wood for woodturning without cracks
Ready-to-use sealant for fresh and dry wood. Ensures even, slow drying of wood, prevents cracking and warping of the wood. Also prevents the reabsorption of water in already dried wood.
The paste is suitable for use on end grain or end grain of tree slices or logs as well as blanks in long timber, e.g. square timber or pen blanks, but also in cross grain up to the engraved shell blank.
The special thing about HSWS is that it is applied cold, i.e. it does not need to be heated like kerosene, for example. This makes it easier and less time-consuming to use. In addition, the König HSWS is highly strengthened, so one application is enough to achieve the same layer thickness as with hot dipping. Compared to other liquid waxes, König Holz & Resin also stands out because it is free from harmful substances and is a good nature-conscious alternative.

Optimal wood drying through end grain sealing - end grain sealing
Sealing the end grain prevents the moisture contained in the wood from escaping too quickly via the exposed water conduction system (capillaries) on the ends. When the end grain surfaces are sealed, the moisture is released evenly via the longitudinal grain of the blank. The wood does not crack or warp, as the even drying prevents tension in the wood.
Drying turned wood faster and storing it correctly - application on tree slices, bowl blanks, long timber and cross grain
Cutting freshly felled wood can significantly reduce its drying time. When drying wood in the open air, the rule of thumb is: 1 cm of wood thickness corresponds to 1 year of drying time. The drying time is not shortened by sealing the wood.
We therefore recommend processing fresh logs into long logs, crosspieces or shell blanks before drying and sealing the exposed end grain or end grain sides with HSWS.
Cut wood to size before drying, i.e. do not dry freshly cut logs as a whole
Cut to size with a band saw or bowl cutter or bowl saver
Rule of thumb for open-air drying: 1 cm per year (trunk 15 cm Ø = approx. 7-8 years)
Application at room temperature from 15 °C to 25 °C,
No heating necessary
Storage of the sealed blanks
Drying can take place outdoors under a wooden shelter or tarpaulin, in a shed, cellar or workshop. Avoid direct sunlight. Plenty of draughts and well-ventilated rooms promote faster drying.
Application of the end grain end grain wax seal
Apply the sealer to the ends and approx. 1 cm to 5 cm along the adjacent surfaces of the end grain. The layer thickness should be approx. 1 - 2 mm. Application can be carried out by dipping or brushing.
Dip in undiluted 1:1 dilution once to a depth of approx. 1 - 1.5 cm
Apply 1:2 and 1:3 thinner in several layers by dipping or brushing
Dilute some wood & resin HSWS
Thinning makes the paste easier and more economical to use, especially when sealing end grain ends by dipping and brushing.
The HSWS from König Holz & Resin can be diluted with water in a mixing ratio of 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3.
If the intention is to completely dilute the paste, distilled water should be used. With distilled water, the HSWS paste remains permanently storable.
When diluting with tap water, always use smaller quantities of the paste. Diluted with tap water, the HSWS paste is not suitable for permanent storage, as it can cause odors or even mould to form.
The HSWS end grain end grain wax seal can be stored indefinitely without being spoiled.
