KS barrel pitch
The transparent KS Barrel Pitch in granulate form is used to make wooden containers watertight
The KS barrel pitch is made from natural raw materials (tree resin from conifers) in Germany. It is odorless and free of harmful substances, contains no additives and is food-safe.
When applied, it has a blocking effect on the wood, making the surface impermeable to water. The wood grain is accentuated and the wood is given a beautiful shine.
The granules are supplied in a 500 gram resealable bag. The granulate form means that the pitch can be easily dosed and heated more easily.
Examples of use
The material originally used to seal beer barrels can also be used for turned wooden drinking vessels such as mugs, goblets, but also bowls, plates and vases to protect them from water and other liquids.
How to use the barrel pitch
- In order for the barrel pitch to be used, it must be heated evenly to 180°C in a saucepan. The bottom of the pot should not have any dents or dings, as the heat in these pots is distributed unevenly, causing some parts of the pitch to heat up too quickly, which can lead to an explosive deflagration. In addition, rising vapors can cause a strong irritating cough if it is heated in the open air.
The container to be sealed with the barrel pitch must be warmed up before filling.
- Pour the liquid barrel pitch into the container using a ladle.
- Pour the pitch back into the cooking pot with a slow swirling motion. Make sure that the pitch is evenly distributed on the inside.
The barrel pitch must only be applied thinly, if it is too thick it can crack.Let the container cool down afterwards in a dust-free environment.
The most important facts in brief
With KS Barrel Pitch, you can waterproof containers in the traditional way using a natural and food-safe raw material.
However, it should be noted that containers treated with KS Barrel Pitch are not suitable for hot drinks or for eating with metal cutlery. Excessive heat or scratching of the surfaces can cause the barrel pitch to dissolve and end up in the drink or food. / and thus end up in food and drinks.
