Hope boring tools at a glance

The Hope boring tools are equipped with either small, round carbide blades, round CRYO cutting blades or a special version with a negative cutting angle. Each type has its own special area of application. An overview can be found in the table below. But first you need to find the right tool. We have the following on offer:

• Hope boring tools with TC cup steels (sizes Mini, Midi, Maxi, Multi & XXL): for hollowing out / removing material, last cut also possible for small workpieces, recommended for initial boring work
• Hope CRYO hollowing tools with CRYO cutting edge: for hollowing and for the final cut, perfect for a first-class finish, slow approach possible thanks to angled position
• Hope CRYO scraper with negative angle (with round & square cutting edge): for the final cut, with flat but solid shaft for extra safety, perfect for finishing the inside of cans or vases
• Hope CRYO cutting scraper (size: Midi & XXL): ideal for finishing wet wood vases, 45° angle between the square shaft and the CRYO cutting plate enables precise angular work

Sharpening carbide and CRYO blades

Hope carbide blades do not need to be sharpened. The metal is so hard that it can withstand constant stress during woodturning. If the blade does become blunt, you can simply loosen it slightly and continue turning, as you only ever work with a small part of the cutting edge when turning. Should the blade become completely blunt at some point, you can purchase a new one from us.
The CRYO blades can also be turned to a sharp point if they become blunt. If one is completely blunt, it can either be sharpened using a mandrel on a diamond file or on the double grinder. Below you will find two videos dealing with carbide blades and the sharpening of CRYO blades.
