... more...What exactly is a double sander?
Double grinders are machines that are equipped with two grinding stones - one on each side. They are suitable for reworking metals or steels, deburring and resharpening tools. These devices are usually equipped with a coarser and a finer grinding wheel so that they can fulfil different tasks.
Our range also includes double grinders that are equipped with CBN discs and are therefore ideal for resharpening and resharpening turning tools. They are therefore a practical tool that no workshop should be without. What are you waiting for? Order directly online from Drechselbedarf Schulte!
Application range of double grinders summarised:
- Resharpening and resharpening of various tools such as axes, knives, turning irons and much more

Useful information for double grinders
We usually deliver our double sanders in such a way that you can use them immediately - equipped with two corundum discs, one finer and one coarser. However, do you have special ideas or requirements? Then it is very easy to upgrade the machines. Use a CBN or diamond disc, for example, which you can also buy in our shop!
If you use one of the corundum grinding discs, a so-called "dresser" is required. This is because the stones wear unevenly over time and you need to bring them back into balance so that they run smoothly. You can find this and many other accessories for double grinders in our range!
Accessories for sharpening woodturning knives
Although it is possible to sharpen woodturning knives by hand or with the platforms usually supplied, it requires a lot of practice. We therefore recommend that you purchase suitable accessories for the precise sharpening of your woodturning tools. In our range you will find the two most popular manufacturers for this purpose:
- Oneway offers accessories primarily for double grinders under the Wolverine series. Our complete sharpening system for wood turners is also equipped with these accessories
- Tormek is primarily known for wet grinders, but the accessories can also be mounted on double grinders using the BGM-100 mounting kit.
Different sanding discs
There are a wide variety of sanding discs for a wide range of applications. Which one you need for your double sander depends on various factors. We can help you!
Difference between aluminium oxide and aluminium oxide sanding discs
Our double sanders are generally equipped with aluminium oxide discs as standard. These are perfectly adequate for beginners and offer you a reliable start. We differentiate between two variants:
- Aluminium oxide discs are particularly suitable for working on HSS and hardened tool steels.
- Normal aluminium oxide discs are used for coarser work, for example for shaping structural steels and screws. They are rarely used for woodturning.
Difference between CBN and diamond grinding discs
If you actively pursue woodturning and invest a lot of time in the craft, you will probably need an upgrade sooner or later. You will find two reliable options in our range:
- Diamond discs in different grit sizes help you to process steels finer or coarser as required. They are particularly suitable for Tormek wet grinders.
- CBN discs are considered the non-plus-ultra as they are particularly durable. Made from boron nitride, they are not only characterised by their hardness and durability, they are also heat-resistant and break-proof.
So even if these variants are a little more expensive to buy, the
purchase will be worth it. After all, you can use your double
sander for years without having to replace it. Order your new tool
