The KS centering system is a must for all KS lathes with a rotating spindle head.
What is the KS double cone used for?
The MK2 double cone is used to bring the previously screwed-in spindle head of a lathe back into line - alignment - with the tailstock.
For this purpose, the KS double cone has an MK2 cone at both ends, which fits exactly into the cone bores of all KS woodturning lathes.
To align the centers exactly, which is commonly known as a "turner's kiss", it is sufficient to push the tailstock and spindle head of the lathe together with the KS double cone inserted.
This method is faster and much more accurate than aligning the spindle head by hand.
Why is the KS double cone important for precisely aligned tips?
When turning and drilling long wood, it is important for a clean result that the workpiece is machined between precisely aligned centers. Even if it looks like the tips of your lathe are aligned, this does not necessarily have to be the case. Especially after the spindle head has been rotated and returned to its original position, it is extremely important not to rely solely on your eyes. Therefore, play it safe with the KS double cone and check that the tailstock and spindle head are in line with each other. This is the only way to ensure that components of smaller kits such as writing instruments can be fitted neatly into each other.
Align and center the spindle head with the KS double cone MK2
- Place the KS double cone MK2 in the conical bore of the tailstock quill

- Unfasten the headstock fixing and move the tailstock in the direction of the spindle and fix the tailstock in place.
Using the tailstock sleeve, slide the double cone MK2 into the headstock cone.
- Align the headstock by pushing it into one another.
- Then fix the headstock and pull back the tailstock.
- Remove the KS double cone MK2.
- The woodturning machine is now ready for use.
